For several decades now, due to the variations in the water level of the Ebro River, which brings increasingly less sediments to the sea, the Delta has undergone changes to its orography. Gola de Migjorn used to be the mouth of the river, but  now is blocked by an accumulation of sediments which has formed a barrier.

The area of Gola de Migjorn borders Buda Island is very near l’Alfacada Lagoon, another spot that is perfect for birdwatching in the Delta.

It’s an area of great natural interest that has led to increased interest in birdwatching, both for species that have their habitat in the Delta and transitory bird species while migrating.
