Handing Bridge 1

The hanging bridge, which has now become another important symbol of the city, began to be built in 1915. Work was
directed by the author of the project, the engineer J. Eugenio Ribera, and the bridge was officially opened in 1921.

The principal elements in the hanging bridge are the two stone pillars forming a triumphal arch on either side of the river, and its metal structure, supported by cables. As the first permanent way of crossing the lower stretches of the Ebro, the bridge greatly improved communications in the area and was for many years the one with the greatest span in Spain.
