Barraques deltaiques
To jump group of several linksTraditional huts in the Ebro Delta
The barraca, or hut, is the traditional dwelling of the Ebro Delta. The first settlers here came to hunt and fish in the lagoons, and these huts were used during the season. When the land first began to be drained for rice growing, farmers began to live in the huts all year round.
The huts were built from reeds using olive and eucalyptus wood to make the structure, whilst the roof was covered in marram grass and the walls were covered with mud and straw.
Several such huts still exist here and there around the Ebro Delta.
