Description
We start off at the Amposta Tourist Informations Office (km 0). With the Ebro on our left we dalk along the Sant Jauem Avenue. About 150m after we cross the N-340 bridge, we turn right and, we carry on towards Sant Carles de la Ràpita, and after 400 m we turn left off the tree-lined road and continue for 60m along a dirt track that starts on our right (km 1.4).
We follow the dirt track, sharing the landcape with small allotjament, and come across the first rice paddies on the route.
Afet 2.5 km, we turn right over a bridge, taking as a landmark a large eucalyptus tree next to a farm (km 3,9).
we go straight ahead for 600 m and turn left long a dirt track that after 1,1 km takes us to Els Ullals de Baltassar (km 5,6).
Ullals are a type of spring where water emerges from the karstic recharge area of Els Ports de Beseit ans the Serra del Montsià mountains. It has most unusual flora, including the Eurpean white waterlily. Its waters are home to several endangereg species of fish, including the nine-spined stickleback, the Valencia toothcarp ans the stone loach.
We leave Els Ullals behind, abd carry on for 300m when we come across a farm where the l'Anglès irrigations channel starts (km 5,9). we go straight on with the channel on our left and the road running along the navigations canal from Amposta to La Ràpita behind us.
After 1,2 km we turn left, taking a bridge over the l'Anglès irrigations channel. We go along for 100m and turn right along a dirt track, parallel t a drainage channel, wich we follow for 2,4 km- along this strech we have a spledind view of the Serra del Montsia- to the TV-3406 road from La Rapita to Sant Jaume D'enveja. We corss the road very carefully ans go straight ahead for 500m. Where we find the path takes us left and after another 400m, meets up mith the l'Encayissada cycle path (km 10,5).
here, we meet up with Trail, the "Lagoon Trail", and if we continue for 1km we meet up with Trail /, " Sant Carles de la Ràpita- Vilacoto-Casa de Fusta".
So we continue along the l'Encayissada cycle path. After 2,5 km we reach a hide, the Aguait del Carreter (km 13). We go straight for 1 km to the casa de Fusta, one of the most embematic building in the delta and Park Informations Centre wich houses and exhibition on the delta ponds (km 14).
Form the Casa de Fusta we retrace our steps all the way back to Els Ullals (km 22,3). We go past the farm ans, very carefully, cross the TV-3408 road or the canal al l'Enclusa, from where we can see the old Carles III navigations canal which joined the Ebro ans Els Alfacs bay.
We return to Amposta with the navigations canal- today an irrigations channel- on our right. After 3,6 km, we leave the canal ans carefully join the roud that, some 600 m further on takes us back to the Amposta riverside path (km 26,5) (after 300m we come across a link with the Sirga path, 20 km of cycke path from Amposta to the Migjorn River).
Form here we go back to the Amposta Tourist Informations Office, 900 m further on, completing a trip of 27,4km.
Tris trail goes along roads (20%), rural tracks (52%) ans cycle paths (28%). Asphalt ( 67%), dirt (33%).
Typical fauna
Rice paddies: mallard, grey heron, cattle egret, little egret, black-winged stilt. Els Ullals: black-crowned night heron, Valencia toothcarp, three-spined stickleback. l'Encayissada: flamingo, marsh harrier. reed warbler.
Typical flora
Els Ullas: European white waterlily, sedge, purple loosestrife. L'Encanyissada: common reed, yellow flag, lesser bulrush, glasswort, salt cedar, sea rush.
Recommendations
Wear a helmet ans take a sufficient food and water, with you. Depending on the time of year, take sun cream ans mosquito repellent- the trail ic completely flat, but bé careful, it can be very windy in this area. Don't forget your puncture reapir kit. If you lik birdwatching, binoculars will come in handy.
Rules ans advises
- Be very careful. This trail advantage of rural tracks ans there is a cycle lane only along the Ampostga riverside path ans around l'Encayissada pond.
- Please flollow the signs ans keep out of no - entry areas.
- Respect the plant ans animals and the enviroment.
- Do not leave litter. Help us keep the Park clean.
- Camping is allowed only on establised campsites.
- In protecte area dogs must be kept on a leash.
- Use the viewpoint to observe the landscape of the delta.
